Hunting season begins Sept. 1 in Corpus Christi

Dove hunting season begins in South Texas on September 1 by followed white-tailed deer archery season on October 3. General deer season opens November 7.

Another favorable deer season is expected this year, according to Alan Cain, white-tailed deer program leader for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. In 2019, the hunter success rate was about 60 percent. Similar numbers are expected this year.

“With any luck, we’ll receive another rain or two in July, solidifying the good conditions and setting the stage for another favorable hunting season,” Cain said. "From a statewide perspective, hunters might expect to see a higher proportion of bucks in the 6.5- to 8.5-year age classes as a result of above-average fawn crops in previous corresponding years."

A license is required to hunt in the state of Texas. For more information, visit the TPWD website.
