They don’t call them the Boys of Summer for nothing. Baseball, America’s favorite pastime, is often at its best — and certainly most economical and fun — at a minor league ballpark. One of the most popular teams plays in Corpus Christi at Whataburger Field. The Corpus Christi Hooks, the Astro’s AA farm team, play through September 2. The family fun includes some of the best ballpark food around, including the Whataburger Restaurant on the first base side behind homeplate.

The Hooks play 11 home games in July, each with a special promotion as well as fireworks and the Harbor Bridge lights display every Friday night home game.

A three-game stand against the Arkansas Naturals is Tuesday-Thursday, July 16-18. On July 16, it’s 4-for-$40 night. Sponsored by Mike Shaw Automotive, baseball fans pay only $40 for four tickets, four hot dogs, and four sodas.

Every Wednesday home game is Family Day at Whataburger Field. Buy one adult ticket at the box office and get one youth ticket for FREE.

On Thirsty Thursdays, all beers and sodas are discounted. A special promotional giveaway is planned for Thursday, July 18. The first 2,000 fans will receive a Hooks Bucket Hat, sponsored by Coastal Bend Chevy Dealers.

Get ready for Christmas in July when the Naturals make way for the Springfield Cardinals on Friday, July 19. Free Christmas Socks sponsored by Ezekiel Diamond will be handed out to fans, who will also enjoy the Texas Lottery Lucky Dance-off and Friday fireworks.

The first 2,000 fans will receive a Josh Reddick Wrestling Pillow presented by Sunnyside Pediatrics. Stick around after the game for a Spazmatics Concert presented by CPL Retail Energy.

Game 3 of four against the Cardinals begins at 4:15 PM on Sunday, July 21, which is also Military Salute Sunday. Active military and veterans with valid IDs receive up to two half-price reserved seats thanks to T-Mobile. Tickets must be purchased at the box office on game day.

By the way, it’s also H-E-B Kids Day when children get to run the bases after the game. The Hooks become the Corpus Christi Raspas with special uniforms celebrating the area’s favorite cool summer treat that Sunday as well.

Come on back for Game 4 against the Cardinals on Dollar Day Monday, July 22. Buy hot dogs, candy, and soda for $1 each. Don’t forget to spin the prize wheel. Sponsored by Mrs. Baird’s.
