For two nights only, some of the top bull riders in the world will battle against bovine athletes in an ultimate showdown of man versus beast as the Professional Bull Riders holds its premier expansion tour during this year's annual Buc Days festival.

Considered the sport’s fastest-growing tour, the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour Buc Days PBR Chute Out begins at 7:30 p.m. on both days, Friday, April 30, and Saturday, May 1, at the American Bank Center. Tickets are on sale.

Buc Days 2021 begins Thursday, April 29, with the launch of the Stripes Carnival, which operates for the entirety of the festival, at the American Bank Center followed by the annual Dunking of the Mayor. Other festivities include the Wings Over South Texas Air Show on May 1-2 and the Navy Army Night Parade at the Parade Pachanga on May 2.

Round 1 of the Chute Out starts Friday with all 45 competing riders attempting one bull ride each. The top 30 riders will return Saturday evening to compete for Round 2, and, from there, the top 15 will attempt one final bull in the championship round to be crowned event champion.

A series of fan safety protocols will be implemented by PBR for a safe and responsible event:

Face masks covering both nose and mouth are required for all fans, staff, and competitors. Small children unable to keep a face mask in place are exempt.

All PBR staff, riders, and stock contractors will undergo COVID-19 medical testing and daily temperature checks.

PBR will sell limited arena capacity.

All fans will be seated in pods to maximize distancing and minimize fan crossover when entering and exiting their seats. PBR will monitor local regulations, increasing seat availability per local regulations.

Signage will be posted throughout the American Bank Center to remind of physical distancing and health safety protocols.

Increased sanitization for areas of high contact, including bathrooms, concourses, concession stands, elevators, dining areas, and the box office.

Hand sanitizer stations will be available throughout the venue. Though this season’s event marks the first PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour held in conjunction with Buc Days, the league’s expansion series has previously made two stops in Corpus Christi.

In October 2017, Colten Jesse (Konawa, Oklahoma) won the debut event, and in December 2018, reigning PBR World Champion Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil) won the Velocity Tour.

In addition, the PBR brought a one-of-a-kind bull riding event to Corpus Christi last November with the PBR U.S. Air Force Reserve Cowboys for a Cause, a team event held atop the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi Bay to launch the sport’s new charitable initiative.

The Buc Days PBR Chute Out will be the ninth PWVT event of the year, with PBR’s tour first stopping in cities such as Greenville, South Carolina; Lexington, Kentucky; Pensacola, Florida; and Grand Forks, North Dakota.

As one of the initial events for the 11-day spectacle celebrating the Western lifestyle, the PBR Velocity Tour event will be accompanied by the first stop of the World Champions Rodeo Alliance Triple Crown of Rodeo, marking the alliance’s first event of 2021. Rodeo Corpus Christi will be held May 6-9, awarding over $500,000 to athletes in nine disciplines: bareback riding, women’s breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, steer roping, team roping (heading and heeling), tie-down roping, barrel racing, and bull riding.

Fans can also purchase a PBR Elite Experience Add On for $50, which provides “a behind-the-chutes look” into this Western sport and includes a question-and-answer session with PBR stars prior to the event, a souvenir lanyard, and a photo opportunity on the shark cage.

Tickets for the event are on sale now and start at $15. They can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com or PBR.com, at the American Bank Center Box Office by phone at 800-653-8000, or by calling PBR Customer Service at 800-732-1727.
