Corpus Christi Buc Days Now Underway in New Location

Buc Days is back, beginning Thursday, April 29, when Mayor Paulette Guajardo walks the plank in Corpus Christi Bay, officially opening the two-week-long celebration, which ends May 9.

First stop after viewing the pirates take over of the city, which occurs at about 5:25 p.m., is the Stripes Carnival, which this year is located in the parking lot of the American Bank Center, 1901 N. Shoreline Drive.

The carnival opens at 5 p.m. on weekdays and noon on Saturday and Sunday. Closing is at about 10 p.m. (or later). Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for military with an ID and seniors ages 65 and older. Children under 36 inches tall get in free. Admission for kids over the height limit is $4 each.

All-you-can-ride wristbands are $30 each. On Mother’s Day, May 9, all-you-can-ride wristbands are $15.

With the new setup, all major events are now centered around the American Bank Center, including the Wings Over South Texas Blue Angels Air Show on May 1-2. The every-other-year air show is usually held at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi.

On Friday, the PBR Buc Days Chute Out begins the first of two nights in the American Bank Center Arena at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, Wings Over South Texas takes to the air from 1-3 p.m. for the first of its two-day shows (both at the same time).

Also on Sunday, May 2, the Navy Army Night Parade and Parade Pachanga begins at 6 p.m. and includes the crowning of the Buc Days King and Queen. The Junior Parade was canceled for a second year but should be back in 2022, Buc Day officials said.

Rodeo-qualifying events join the fun Monday-Wednesday, May 3-5, all beginning 9 a.m. at the RMB Fairgrounds in Robstown.

On Thursday, May 6, Rodeo Corpus Christi opens for four nights at the American Bank Center Arena. Show starts at 7 p.m. each night (except Sunday).

On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, come early for mutton bustin’ and stick horse barrel racing from 5-6:30 p.m. On Sunday, May 9, those two kid-friendly events are 1-2:30 p.m. The rodeo begins at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
