Blue Angels to Soar Over Buc Days 2021
Two South Texas traditions will merge next year for a sensational two weeks of events. Corpus Christi Buc Days will host the U.S. Navy Blue Angel’s Wings Over South Texas Air Show on May 1-2, 2021. Buc Days events will run April 29-May 9.
“The opportunity to have the Airshow as part of Buc Days was a no brainer that will allow us to expand on this great tradition while further fueling scholarships for Coastal Bend Students,” said Buccaneer Commission President and CEO Johnny Philipello in a statement.
Paired with the comeback of Buc Days, which was canceled in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic, the South Texas air show will take a new direction, according to Capt. Chris Jason, commanding officer of Naval Air Station Corpus Christi.
“Although NASCC will only be in a supporting role, the new format will allow greater public access for members of our South Texas community and the visitors that the show will attract,” Jason said. “This new show format also underscores the strength of the relationship between the military and the local community.”
In 2021, the air show will be viewed off the Corpus Christi Bayfront, making it part of the Buc Days footprint along the shoreline downtown.
