Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi continues to grow

Seek your inner sea creature at the Texas State Aquarium

One of the top 10 aquariums in the United States, the Texas State Aquarium is a big tourist attraction in Corpus Christi. With the new Caribbean Journey expansion, which doubled the size of the original facility, the aquarium offers a full-immersion experience into Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula and the Western Caribbean Sea.

From otters to the American bald eagle and hermit crabs to sharks, you’ll also find exhibits and demonstrations that explore the wildlife of the Coastal Bend region and the Gulf of Mexico.
Dolphin’s Bay now features four bottlenose dolphins that provide entertainment throughout the day. Liko and Schooner have joined Kai and Shadow for daily dolphin shows, which can be viewed both above and below the tank for a unique underwater perspective of a dolphin’s life under the sea.

Bring the kids to pet jellyfish, sharks and stingrays. View a jellyfish incubator in action and visit octopuses, sea turtles, otters, hawks and flamingos. Meet a sloth up close and personal.
Also, in the Caribbean Exhibit, the only 4-D theater south of San Antonio shows “Shark: A 4-D Experience” and “Ice Age: No Time for Nuts 4-D” featuring Scrat, the “Ice Age” movies’ nut-obsessed, saber-toothed squirrel.

Education is just as important as providing entertaining exhibits. Texas State Aquarium advances STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education and learning. Programs include home schooling, camps, overnight visits, story times and more.

Conservation is also key at the aquarium. The Wildlife Rescue and Recovery Center rehabilitates and, when possible, returns wild animals of land, sea and air to their natural habitats. The animal care program is conducted as a community service and part of the aquarium’s mission of conservation.
