Texas SandFest, which happens over a weekend in April, is an annual sandcastle sculpting event in Port Aransas, Texas. The weekend event draws over 100,000 sandcastle enthusiasts to Mustang Beach each year to watch professional sand sculptors from around the world build beautiful works of art.
Sand artisans come year-round because of the world renowned Coastal Bend sand, which is unlike the sand anywhere else in the world. The unique grains of sand are flat and fine and retain surface tension that helps artistic creations stick together like glue.
Visitors can enjoy the festival and family-friendly activities. There are over 100 different gift, food and drink vendors. There are activities for children to play, live music and more.
In addition to the professional competition, an amateur competition takes place for those wishing to literally dip their toes in the sands of sand sculpting.
