Singers and musicians from sea to shining sea are invited to tryouts for singing the National Anthem at the opening of Corpus Christi Hooks games this season. Tryouts will be held on a first-come, first-served basis from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 17, at Whataburger Field, 734 E. Port Ave. The Hooks are Double-A affiliate of the World Series champions, the Houston Astros.
Participants should be prepared to sing or play the anthem without a backing track. Judges will be looking for a firm knowledge of the worlds to the anthem, voice strength and quality, and confidence.
Each performer is given a two minutes 15 seconds with a microphone and full speakers on so everyone attending can hear. The public is welcome to attend and be part of the experience, which helps usher in baseball season.
The Hooks are schedule to play their first game on Thursday, April 5, in Arvest Ballpark in Springdale, Arkansas, against the North West Arkansas Naturals. The first home game is set for 7:05 p.m. Thursday, April 12, also against the Naturals.
Tickets can be purchased online, by phone at (361) 561- HOOK (4665) or at the ballpark anytime from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday or 60 minutes before the first pitch. Season tickets are also available online.
