Christmas events at Corpus Christi churches

The Corpus Christi Messiah Chorus at First United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi joins with musicians from Del Mar College, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas A&M-Kingsville universities and the Corpus Christi Symphony for its 21st presentation of Handel’s ‘Messiah.’

From Dec. 3 to Jan. 6, the churches of the Coastal Bend have Christmas celebrations planned for every age and tradition. Some will perform classical music, while others will have breakfast with Santa. Plays and pageants are set for almost every weekend in a variety of settings and religions. There’s got to be one here that interests you!


First United Methodist Church

900 S. Shoreline Blvd.

3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3

For the 21st year, the Corpus Christi Messiah Chorus, accompanied by musicians from Del Mar College, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas A&M-Kingsville universities and the Corpus Christi Symphony. Soloists include renowned professionals Nancy Lanmom Munn, Hope Thacker, Nick Lopez and Ross Bernhardt. Admission is free. A free-will offering will be taken to support United Methodist Committee on Relief.

Christmas Play and Festival

4-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3

Before the play “Christmas Bedtime Stories” begins at 7 p.m., kids can delight in a variety of activities, including pony rides, face painting, a climbing wall, bounce houses, an obstacle course, a bungee power jump, a trackless train, a hay ride, sports challenges, s’mores and more. Have dinner or a snack at a food truck. Admission is FREE!


First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi

8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9

Join Santa Claus for a pancake breakfast in the recreation center. Make a gift for Mom and Dad or cards for relatives, and bring your camera for photos with the Jolly Ol’ Elf. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 3-12. No reservations needed. Pay at the door.


Church of the Good Shepherd

700 S. Upper Broadway

10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 10

Children and youth of all ages are welcome to participate in the annual festive re-enactment of Jesus’s birth in Bethlehem. Everyone can play a part. Bring cookies to share in the courtyard afterward.
