Best Burgers in Corpus Christi

The best burgers in Corpus Christi come in all sizes with a wide variety of flavorings — made to order and delicious. Try them all, and let us know which ones you like best.

If you’re looking for the best burger in Corpus Christi, three places to start are Wallbangers Gourmet Hamburgers, Snapka’s and The Post, which just made Texas Monthly’s list for best burgers in the state.

These three are just the beginning, however. As a college town, Corpus Christi has certainly met the demand for the burger-craving masses. It is the home of Whataburger, after all!

Here is our list of the best burgers in Corpus Christi. Think some are missing? It’s a start. You can help us build it by letting us know where you go for a big, juicy burger.

Wallbangers Gourmet Hamburgers

4102 S. Staples St.

4760 Leopard St.

(361) 855-8007

Made-to-order, handcrafted burgers with all fresh ingredients that you can pile on yourself. Try a stuffed burger, too: two chuck patties stuffed with toppings of your choice, sealed and grilled. Sides include mac and cheese, twisted fries, and onion rings. Milk shake or beer? Both are cold and refreshing.

Snapka’s Drive Inn

4434 Weber Road

(361) 855-8355

After 65 years of flipping burgers and frying onion rings, Snapka’s has it down. This is the burger that defines the American culinary experience. Try the Dixie Cheese Burger with onion rings for a time-traveling trip to the 1950s, when burgers really mattered.

The Post

Lamar Park Shopping Center

411 Doddridge St. #102

(361) 452-0907

The Heisenburger put The Post on THE list of best burgers — not just in Corpus Christi but in the Lone Star State as well. Texas Monthly praised its 6-ounce beef patty on a toasted, buttered bun and topped with sharp cheddar cheese. Up the ante by adding a fried egg and bacon.

Padre Island Burger Company

14414 Texas 361

(361) 949-3490

On the Island with live music, outdoor seating and sweet potato fries to accompany its amazing burgers. The owner and chef is a Corpus Christi native and Padre Island resident who was trained at the Culinary Institute of America. Offers gourmet burgers and a laid-back atmosphere.

Executive Surf Club

306 N. Chaparral

(361) 884-7873

Fans can eat their favorite meal —usually a Surf Burger — at a surfboard table for the full-on Corpus Christi-sure-rocks experience. A go-to place for happy hour for 25 years now, Executive Surf Club is the perfect casual family dining spot. Live music and the most beer on tap in the city. Dog-friendly patio, too!

Whataburger by the Bay

121 N. Shoreline

(361) 881-9925

A two-story Whataburger just off Corpus Christi Bay, this might be the most famous of the longtime chain. Whataburger was born in Corpus Christi in 1950 and is a hometown favorite. A typical local saying: You know you’re from Corpus Christi when you can order your Whataburger meal without looking at the menu. Or: You know you’re from Corpus when you can’t start the day without a Whataburger breakfast.

Seawall Food & Spirits

520 S. Shoreline Drive

(361) 726-3533

Eat right on the beach in Corpus Christi. Full bar and outdoor seating. Has the true feel of a Corpus Christi beach bar and grill. Don’t forget to try the breakfast burger paired with a “mean” margarita.

J.P. Bombers

6109 McArdle Road

(361) 334-0067

You won’t find more original burger offerings than here. The Jalapeno Bomber Burger comes with queso and chili poured over the bun of a fully assembled burger. (Knife and fork, please.) The S.O.B Challenge pays for your 48-ounce beef burger if you can eat it in 30 minutes. Do it, and you also get a place on the Wall of Fame.

Vick’s Famous Hamburgers

4989 Ayers St.

(361) 851-9099

In business since 1976, Vick’s has a huge menu that includes chicken tenders, shrimp, fish baskets, tacos and more. Best are the burgers, from the mushroom and double-meat burgers to the Ultimate Burger, a double-meat with cheese, bacon, grilled onions and jalapeños with all the other fixings as well. Doggie-friendly, too!

Grub Burger Bar

4902 S. Staples A-1

(361) 444-2424

The burgers are as unusual as their names; the Voo Doo Mushroom, Scorpion, Lockhart Legend, You’re My Boy Blue, Guacapotle, Thai Peanut, Hippie Chickpea, Jive Turkey and Wild Alaskan Salmon (not so fancy a name, but certainly descriptive!) A newcomer to the burger market in Corpus Christi, Grub Burger Bar has quickly become a favorite.
